Figured I'd register just to post my thoughts on hosting here.
First off. Tassle. On the first page you said 'no wonder you lag your upload speed is really high and thats what causes it' is utterly and completely, WRONG. Upload speed is how fast he can send data back out to the players. The best server is going to be one with the highest upload speed. It will not matter if you have 2mb download, or 6mb download, and in some areas, 8mb or 16mb is available from your cable companies. That doesn't matter.
Two. I've played 7 Naruto games in the top two pages of ranked games on byond, to see which one I wanted to play. Kudos to stego for making the most enjoyable 'rip'. It is the most modified version of the original naruto game I've seen yet, and it deserves its spot as the best naruto game on byond. The best 'overall' game on byond, however, it lacks far from. I would like to take this time and refer you to some of the better games on BYOND. Take a look at some games that don't have bugs. Then see how fast their servers run.
Yes. A Poorly programmed game is what your problem is , people. Too many bugs, too many unneccissary loops in the coding, etc. When a 3mb download, 700kbps upload connection can host a flawless game with 60 players, and have no slowdown for the first 24 hours of uptime, then you KNOW for a FACT that if moleboy's server is going down, it's not because of his connection. It's the game's programming. ClanDBGT2 is an excellently programmed game by James and in its hayday it ran on the above said cable line, 60 players, 70 players on the weekends and NO lag. DBZ by Kanak is another example. I was the host of Gekisen by Masterdan a few years back, I had my 3mb cable line, 700kbps upload. Lag-free up to about 40-50 people. He had some 'stream-line' issues with his code and stopped re-programming to make it better.
TX (X= any random number you feel like putting in there) are not what you said, either tassle. I hate you just from reading your ****y posts, btw. A T1 line does not constitute 1 number. None of you have T-something lines. Except perhaps, the guy with the website Bmac(orsomething?) A T1, T3lines etc are symmetrical meaning the upload speed MATCHES the download speed perfectly. a T1 line with 1mbps download and 1mbps upload will out-speed, and host a better lag-free game than any 4mbps download/300or 700kbps upload cable connection. But the 700kbps will come close. =)
T-1 lines cost 100-300$+/month, and I doubt any of you are dumb enough to claim that much BS for the simple sake of epeen. =) Let alone there are no companies who will give you a T1 line at a residence, most states it's illegal because of it being a business line in a residential area causing zoning issues, etc.
********************IN SHORT************** Moleboy's connection isn't the problem. Its A.) his dedication to monitoring the server properly (this means the second you wake up, the last minute before you goto sleep, and several times during the day atleast 3-4) B.) His computer, if it's being shared by the whole family, it's going to lose critical RAM usage and overall system resources will really tax the whole thing. It'd be more realistic to make the server 20/7 or 20/6 so he can turn it off at nighttime and give the comp a breather. If it's going to be down ANYWAY, you mind as well plan it, so the players aren't upset when it goes down unexpectedly. C.) Game's code. A Poorly programed game will tax the host's resources faster than it really needs to.
I left because the game , however much of a far leap it is ahead of the other rips, is still a second-rate game. It has balancing issues, it has moderation issues. Mainly, there are never any GM's on, and when there is one, the only way i met *it* was because it teleported, killed me, teleported away and proceded apparently, to do the same thing to other players as *it* continued to kill random people out of thin air for 30 minutes, then logged off.) Meaning poor staff. You need a mature GM or two on the staff to help you out, stego. You can attract these kind of people by continuing your programming knowledge to expand the game into a truely wonderful work. Goodluck&best wishes. =)
i stoped half way down the page because i want to know who is this nub. and uploading makes a huge difference why do you think it lags if your hosting if you download a torrent. In moles case his whole family uses it who cares i would say out of the 50 people i know personaly that play on here and that host dont have this problem and they have familys of 3 and 4 one of my best friends his family has a gfx company and it wont lag even on their pos comp
