Anbu is like a "branch" rank apart from Jounin. To aquire ANBU postion you must become jounin first. ANBU is like a special force of ninjas that defend and do S rank missions. They are like the top ranked jounins BUT they have the choice not to become an ANBU and stay as a normal Jounin and teach genins.
Kakashi used to be an ANBU who was very successful but he kind of... "retired" from the postion and became a sensei. So, practically, Jounin~ANBU Elite is all equal in skills but ANBU Elite is usually the most experienced jounins.
i am just saying when i wacth the show the anbu are normally weaker than the jounin i think anbu is when you are chunin and about to be promoted you get a choce 1- join anbu as kinda a guard to proect the village but do not deal with many decision about the village jounin- gotta train kids and go to villages for treaties but is hard to get stego i think you are wrong for gai sensei vs a anbu would be like butter vs a sword gai would win or anko i think she could own an anbu also think numbers the law of large numbers can normally predict power there are aton of acad students for all can be an acad you just gotta well i do not know how yuou jnoi the acad next is genin most people pass so there are alot of genin but think how many chunin are there not many like maybe 10 now anbu there are like 7/10 anbu people there are like like ?jounin and 3 sannin and one kage i belive most jounin could own anbu for look at the war the jounin and ex joinin like haishi (i think haishi is a ex jounin for he does not do mission i think) wre figthing but the anbu were knocked out kubuto was able to take out like 5 anbu by himslef in the hospital so reconsider thata stego this is the one thing i will figth you on for i think i am right on this i have checked on quiz sites thata say your rank people with the higher score got jounin and lower score got anbu so really

cause the anbu were the ones that attacked the villiage anbu is a choice but most jounin dont take it becaus it preety much is being the hokages bitch where jounin you can do the same missions as anbus except more freedom
... you really think those 2 anbu form the chunin ep's were in it for being the kages slaves no thye did it for they were not good enof notice the respect they give anko in it she leads i think

Okay, I hate to break it to Stego (not that everyone else hasn't, but oh well) but ANBU is generally considered easier to get into than becoming a Jounin. ANBU were once better than Jounin, when they had that weird school thing, but that closed down for...appropriate reasons. Anyway, Itachi was a Chuunin and then advanced to an ANBU. I believe he became ANBU over Jounin due to his father's influence, as the clan was almost always within the police force, to protect the village, similar to that of ANBU. Anyway, most people consider ANBU as a seperate ranking system from the normal one, as they can be of a variety of skilled-ness. Therefore, I would generally say to either have it as a choice at Chuunin level, and make the elites similar to the jounin's, to allow people who choose ANBU to have similar status in the end to a Jounin.
